Hosted by the Chapter’s Women’s Forum, we are offering another Coffee Talk session with a focus topic to be led by a valued industry professional in a mentor circle-style.  Be sure to take this opportunity to connect with a small group of risk management professionals and share your experiences and perspectives.

Leadership Paradox: Direct, Yet Kind

Great leaders have undeniable characteristics that propel them to the top. Interestingly, some of these characteristics seem to oppose each other. Leaders are urgent and patient: they take action but wait for the right timing. They are confident yet humble. They are focused yet flexible. They are direct, yet kind.

In this Coffee Talk, we’ll focus on these two seemingly contradictory traits. Clear, detailed, straightforward, tell-it-like-it-is communication leaves little to chance. Caring, compassionate, accommodating communication builds trust and relationships. Direct communication, if left to its own devices, can seem cold, off-putting, and harsh. Kind communication, left to its own devices, can seem wishy-washy, noncommittal, and indecisive. So, how do you balance the two to achieve greatness?
