Commercial Lending Academy
8 days: February 25 - 28 and March 25 - 28, 2019

This year marks the 20th year that the Minnesota Chapter of the Risk Management Association will offer the Commercial Lending Academy.  Since the program's inception, over 438 lenders, credit analysts and financial industry professionals from more than 95 institutions in the Midwest have graduated from the Academy.  Our program provides a comprehensive overview to the various aspects of the commercial loan underwriting and management process.

Class Format: To minimize the time commitment away from the office, the material is organized into a two-week format/8-day: Monday, February 25 through Thursday, February 28 (8:00am - 5:00pm) AND Monday, March 25 through Thursday, March 28 (8:00am - 5:00pm).

  • Cash Flow I
  • Cash Flow II 
  • Qualitative Analysis
  • Intermediate Cash Flow
  • Loan Structure
  • OCC Regulatory Panel

FACILITATORS:

  • John Reik - John Reik of John Reik & Associates, a Minnesota based business training and consulting firm. John has presented numerous RMA seminars since 1986 and has been a lecturer and Assistant Professor of Finance at the University of Minnesota for over 40 years. He also was senior trainer and manager of Credit and Finance Education for U.S. Bank for 8 years.
  • Jeff Judy - Jeff Judy spends most of his time teaching financial institutions and businesses how to talk to each other, especially about credit. His training and consulting activities have taken him all across North America, as well as to Europe and Asia. He has educated thousands of financial services staff in financial and credit analysis, risk management, building relationships, working with regulations, and implementing effective processes. With management, Jeff consults on developing effective policy, portfolio management, and organization culture issues. Using that experience, Jeff also presents to business groups, giving them unique insights into how credit decisions are made.

ITEMS TO BRING: Paper, Pen, Highlighter and a Calculator (Course syllabus will be handed out upon arrival)

PREREQUISITE: A general knowledge of accounting, banking terminology and financial statements is highly recommended.

TUITION DEADLINE: The 2019 Academy Tuition is $2,095 per person. Full payment must be received in order to complete the application process no later than Friday, December 28, 2018.

YOUR COMMITMENT:

  • You must attend all eight days of the 2019 Commercial Lending Academy and complete all assignments on a timely basis, including comprehensive inter-session homework in order to graduate.
  • You must complete all daily course evaluations on a timely basis.

APPLICATION REVIEW/PROCESS: Your completed 3-page application (and $2,095 tuition) is required before the RMA Minnesota Chapter Commercial Lending Academy committee will review your application. You will hear back from us within 5 business days regarding your acceptance.

LUNCH & SNACKS: Provided at the facility and are included as part of the tuition fee

ATTIRE: Business Casual (tie and jacket not required). No jeans please.

GRADUATION LUNCHEON: Wednesday, March 20, 2019 (11:30am - 1:15pm) at Minneapolis Club.
The ceremony will be held during the RMA Minnesota Chapter luncheon-meeting. Mark your Calendar!

CANCELLATION POLICY: Email info@rma-mn.org prior to January 31, 2019 and there will be no charge. Cancellations received after 1/31/19 (and no-shows) will be charged the full applicable registration fee. Substitutions are allowed, however the new candidate must go through the application process.

HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS: Please visit the Roseville Visitor’s Association for recommended hotels near the U of M’s Continuing Education Center.
